XFM Featherweight Challenge 2005: Ipswich

The event was held in Woodbridge near Ipswich, only Ed and DB5 attended and competed for the $500 prize money.

Saturday

I arrived at 10:15 and set up shop in the pits with other feathers including: LH2, LF2, LS, Scorpian Evilution, Batterbot, Pillow Torque, Action, Unity, Dragon Stike, Dragon, Stiff Breeze, Ramapge, Dizzy Tilly and Pushabilitilly(push). The draw for the moring session was made just before the first show. I was drawn against Scorpian, which has been upgraded and caused a lot of damage to DB5 just as it did at Warwick last year. But after checking the wiring DB5 was still working once the chassis had been bent back to stop it jamming the wheel up. DB5 had a whiteboard melay next, in which Shane from Dizzy Tilly was driving and he did very well. The afternoon session saw the start of the main competition. DB5 was drawn against Push, which had broken down. I still wanted the fight so I lent Pete and Shane my spare speed controllers. The fight went my way very quickly as they were still having problems, and I pushed them against the wall and rammed them a few times. Another melay at the end of the afternoon, DB5 was driven by Shane again. After the session we all went to the pub for food and drinks before returning to the campsite and to bed

Sunday

The 6 O'clock car boot sale on the same field as the campsite which we were promised failed to materialise so we had time to kill before the event. Most of this time was taken up by watching Sean from the scorpian team trying to find his 'lost' shoe, poor kid, but it was very funny. We returned to the school for the event at 11. Again the draw was mad this time for the second round(QF) DB5 was drawn against Rampage. Rampage is my nemesis has I have never beaten it. This was sadly the case again as DB5 was dumped in the pit, the reason it failed in this fight was mainly due to scorpain inflicted damage catching up with the robot. I had to declare DB5 out of the final session as I didn't have time to repair the drive. But I stayed around to watch the final between Dizzy Tilly and Little Spinner. LS was the favourite but part way through the fight they chopped their own aerial off and lost control. So Dizzy won, well done to Shane. I then packed up and set off for home to repair all the damage to DB5.

LH2, LS and LF2 from the Big Nipper Team.
