RL: Robots Live 2007 - Leicester

Friday

For me the event really started on Friday, as after work I travelled up to help put the final touches to the arena for the event, the first using this arena. As Dave and I were helping as crew for Robots Live we have been helping out the last few weeks also. We finished, got the arena down and most of it in the lorry by the time I left for home, which was about midnight. Got home sorted out the things we needed for the weekend. I went to bed about half 1 in the end.

Saturday

Collected Dave and after a slight detour on the A42 we got to the leisure centre about 9.30. The arena build had started, and was finished in time for the first show at 6pm. After some practise we think it will go up in around 5 hours. DB5 nor Mr Happy actually had a fight in this show as Dave was busy with tech checks and I with Tx control we didn't have time to sort either feather out. At this point I should point out that Turbulence is still not ready so it had been left at Priory Casters factory. The first show with the new arena went very well with some good fights. After the show most of the roboteers and crew went to a resteraunt for a meal. Sam Smith (Tiberius), Kenny and his cousin Dave and I stayed up had a few beers and reviewed the event so far before going to bed around 1.30 in the morning.

Sunday

We got back to the event a little late and some new robots had turned up, I have to say thanks to Shane Lale for covering Tx control while I wasn't there, he did a great job. Again the second show went very well, Mr Happy got charged during this show, its batteries were struggling to hold charge for its first fight, I didn't have time to get DB5 back together and after this show I gave up as I knew I wouldn't have time. The second show didn't go without incident, many of the heavies had broken down, StormII, Behemoth and Merlin to name a few so I had a mad 5mins tring to find some fights to fill the show. Eventually we had a grudge match with Pressure and Iron Awe I think. The show finished and most of the roboteers set off home. We stayed as long as we could to get the arena down and we had cleared the building by 11pm. A very long weekend but overall it was successful and worth it.
