Featherweight Diary

    News Archive 2004

  • 15/04/04 - Packed up things for return to uni tomorrow, in between heavyweight work and getting the car fixed.
  • 11/04/04 - Second day of the Robot Rumble (see Report). Also weighed the robot properly to 11.95kg.
  • 10/04/04 - First day of the Robot Rumble (see Report).
  • 09/04/04 - Finished the robot and had a quick test fight with Dave's feather Bodger.

  • 31/03/04 - Another trip to B+Q for bolts. Then disk work was mostly finished. Just a few finishing touches and testing to be done now. Although primary speed controllers are not yet repaired.
  • 30/03/04 - Started the speed controller work before finishing the drive train and mounting the batteries and disk motor.
  • 29/03/04 - Got another innertube from my Uncle. In the evening, I finished the spur gear and made a new axle for it. Started drilling the last sprocket and cut the right side armour. I also examined the speed controllers ready for the external relay mod which I might do tomorrow. Thought more about the disk and started making it also started making the battery clamps, quite a productive day.
  • 28/03/04 - Finished the third wheel and fitted back into the robot, stared drilling the second spur gear and mounted the newly painted rear armour.
  • 27/03/04 - Started making a third wheel, also tidied the workshop a bit arranging a space for the heavyweight bits. Lightened the motor and wheel mounts on the right side and put them back in the robot.
  • 26/03/04 - Finished all the lightening of one side and have reassembled that side. Also made new front (6mm) and side armour (5mm) from polycarb sheets. Spray painted the base armour. Also had a look at Dave's new feather and it should be very good when its finished.
  • 25/03/04 - Thought about the disk setup while I continued to drill holes in the spur gears, sprockets and wheels. I also made a new axle for the spur gear as the old one was damaged.
  • 24/03/04 - Made up the first of my new wheels, they are slightlly smaller and a lot grippier which should mean I get more pushing ability. Also worked more on lightening some components. Worked on the weight budget and after the new wheels are made I should be about spot on.
  • 23/03/04 - Reduced the weight of the top and bottom armour a bit, continued to work on the spur gears. Also started making a new right drive plate, this is to stop the pinion on the motor shaft from catching the front wheel and imparing performance.
  • 22/03/04 - Got an old bike tyre from my uncle's bike shop to make into tyres for CBF. Continued weighing parts and started reducing the sprockets, wheels and spur gears. I also cut some new axles as the old ones are on the way out and need to be new for Debenham. Also started charging some batteries, as there are a lot to do. Also sorted out a spares box.
  • 21/03/04 - Today was the first time since I got home on Friday (Today is Sunday) that I managed to get into the workshop. Had a tidy up and dismantled the robot and began to reduce the weight of the chassis. At the moment it stands at 1.56Kg but I can reduce it a bit more yet, will do tomorrow. I also found green paint on the chassis from Micromaul, how it got under the armour I don't know.
  • 19/03/04 - Got home from uni today and bunged everything back in the workshop for now. This next week sees three weeks hard work on the robot before debenham which is the next event.
  • 17/03/04 - Today something that I have been thinking about for a while has happened. For the sake of common sense, resource and money we have joined forces with Dave who is Team Turbine. As a result we will build a heavyweight as a combined team under the name of Turbine and our featherweights will remain our own. A new web site will be made for the team.
  • 15/03/04 - Withdrew G-Force from Debenham after an e-mail from Jon.
