Featherweight Diary

    News Archive 2004

  • 12/03/04 - Got an e-mail back from Dom, he answered my questions. Also worked on the weight reductions for CBF only need to loose another 200g now but I am running out of things to reduce. Also e-mailed Jon about some help over easter as the list of things to do is growing by the day.
  • 11/03/04 - Messed about with my new transmitter for the first time properly and set up the mixing for the robot, so driving should be a lot easier. Also e-mailed Dom Rott with some questions about the electronize mod which needs doing after mine get repaired again.
  • 10/03/04 - Finalised the disk design that Ive had in my head for ages, its just down to finding the weight for all the parts. I think it can be done.
  • 08/03/04 - Went to a loacl hobby shop to get some polycarbonate spray paints for some new armour for Debenham, which is the next event.
  • 07/03/04 - Got the train back up to uni, but left the robot at home in the workshop ready for easter. Planned easter work schedule for both feather and heavy during journey back, hopefully Debenham will prove to be a very good event.
  • 06/03/04 - Got up early for the FW smash, quite pleased with how the day went. Read the report.
  • 05/03/04 - Got home on the train which was very hard work, went around to Jon's parents house to pick up spare xtals and speedos. At home put in the speedos and preped the robot for the featherweight smash tomorrow.
  • 04/03/04 - My new transmitter set and nicads arrived this afternoon. Set about working on the robot, but somehow managed to blow the speed controllers up again I think it was the nicads being at too high a voltage. Anyway I have Jons 15Amp Speedos as a backup, just got to pick them up when I get home.
  • 03/03/04 - Continued work on the robot, lots of lightening and some work on the wheel mounts which are now finished. Several more things need doing before the weekend to get the robot going perfectly, but I have a lot of uni work to do, so time is tight at the moment.
  • 02/03/04 - Discontinued, I hate hearing that word. But in this case it seems to have worked out ok as the Sky 6 that I ordered has been replaced by a new Tx and it is a lot better for not much more money. Anyway I have reordered this replacement, just hope to have it for the Featherweight Smash at the weekend.
  • 01/03/04 - Started working on the wheel mounts that causesd the chain to come off on Sunday, also to lighten the robot further.

  • 29/02/04 - Just got back fom Preston after a good days fighting, quite pleased with the progress the robot is making, see event report.
  • 28/02/04 - Ordered parts haven't arrived yet so robot will be put back together for tomorrow's event in Preston.
  • 06/02/04 - Ordered upgrades from Technobots, Radio set and Nicads.
  • 05/02/04 - Disassembled the robot ready for some upgrades, these include Nicads, new rc set, new battery and electronics mount, more ti armour
  • 04/02/04 - Got my speed controllers back today haven't had time to test them but they are said to be working, many thanks to Electronize for the quick repair.

  • 30/01/04 - Last week I blew up my speed controllers and have today sent them back to Electronize for repairs. I have also made a new axle for the bent one that I suspected last time.
  • 09/01/04 - Packed up the robot and tools for a return to university in a few days.
  • 08/01/04 - Put the spare set of batteries in the robot and gave it a quick on the bench test, I think one of the axles may be bent probably from me standing on it.
  • 07/01/04 - Finished charging the 1st set of batteries and also got a multimeter to test them and some others. An old battery that I thought was dead was, only showing 2.9V not 12V.
  • 06/01/04 - Did quite a lot of driving practise until the batteries went flat. Suprisingly it managed to move with my 70kg standing in it, I was quite impressed.
  • 05/01/04 - Fixed the chain from yesterday and tensioned it better so hopefully it won't come off today. Im going over to Jon's (my teammate) to have a practise battle with G-Force.
Well that didn't last long the right side dropped a chain again and I couldn't fix it there. Got back home and fixed it and got it working very well, just can't wait for a chance to test it in battle.
  • 04/01/04 - Had a test drive to show my family over at my grans and after a few crashes(on purpose) into the wall one of the chains came off. It goes well and took the crashes well.
  • 03/01/04 - Finally finished the robot enough to test it properly and it worked quite well. I put quite a hole in the workshop door and smashed a rubbish bin. I have organised a friendly battle with G-Force on Monday (05/01) to give it some battle experience. I also today recieved an e-mail from RC Wars (James Cooper) and he has invited me to another war but its on the 18th of this month and I can't go as I'm back at uni.
