News Archive 2003
- 29/07/03 - Since the last update I have got some of the parts for the speed controller for the heavy, but still no success with the feather and time is running out.
- 20/07/03 - Went to the Land Rover Show at the Billing Aquadrome with some guys from scouts who are into them. Quite a good day and would have spent money on tools but am saving for the heavyweight at the moment which has been gathering momentum. Looks very promising.
- 16/07/03 - Today saw the first test of the drive train, and it was a failure after about 10 seconds. More work is needed on chain tensioners and some other stuff.
- 14/07/03 - I have been donated some stainless steel calipers that could show promise as a weapon for a featherweight.
- 12/07/03 - Dave M came over again and we exchanged some stuff, he gave me two motors and some pulleys for a disk and in the evening I took CBF to a barbeque and everyone was quite impressed.
- 09/07/03 - Bit more work on feather drive train, not finished yet, hopefully soon.
- 06/07/03 - Attended the Interford Show with Roaming Robots at Gaydon today, not one of the best events but t'was fun. My feather went for display and I joined Team Turbine for the day. (Report). In the evening worked on chain setup and am close to first test on one side.
- 05/07/03 - Work has progressed a lot over 2 days since I've been home from Uni, but not enough time has meant that it is not ready for Gaydon. I will probably attend the event anyway but without a robot.
- 14/05/03 - No work on the robot but I found a few old diary entries on a disk and have added them at the bottom of this page.
- 25/05/03 - Got all four wheels mounted in some kind of order to sort out other layouts and things, but thats about all I can do at the moment.
- 23/05/03 - Worked of wheel mounts and have now got 3 wheels in place although the outer mounts are only temperary, it is looking quite good.
- 21/05/03 - Mounted the first axle, wheel and sprocket after yet another shopping trip. Just 3 more to go now then remount the motors and sort out the chains.
- 17/05/03 - A few more events have appeared on the calendar and Ive done a bit more on the robot as my finger is a bit better.
- 14/05/03 - The Seaside Slam has been cancelled so that means only one more event this year at the moment that I can go to, bit disapointing.
- 09/05/03 - Robot work will be paused for a while as I have crushed my finger in a door and it is quite painfull. Otherwise work had been going well considering my room at uni is not a proper workshop.
- 06/05/03 - Filled in and sent back the Seaside Slam Entry form. Worked in fitting the wheels and sprockets to the robot. Further work on developing speedo for the heavyweight.
- 05/05/03 - Trip to B+Q for some tools and bolts.
- 29/04/03 - Although my resurces are limited here I have managed to get both motors turning through the speed controllers today. I have also done a complete Events diary for
the coming year which can be downloaded from the events page(word format).
- 28/04/03 - Update: Combat Record for CBF Mk3 see link to the left.
- 26/04/03 - Well I have returned to uni to find my parts here, but I still won't be able to work on the robot for 10 weeks. Done some more research for the heavy, finally getting
my head around pneumatics. Have also uploaded the site, some pictures haven't uploaded as they are too large, will work to correct that soon.
- 25/04/03 - The team meeting last night was very productive, we will have 3 featherweights as a team, a spinner mk4, an axe - Ami, and a new one once those two are
finished. As for a heavyweight, we now feel we are ready and have some good ideas so watch this space. Oh and we also managed to polish off a few beers.
- 23/04/03 - Worked on weight allowance for CBF4 started packing up for the return to uni, also decided on some more things I need to buy.
- 21/04/03 - Update: More added to photos page and Mk4 Page and the event report from the Easter Rumble.
- 21/04/03 - Took CBF3 apart to examine the damage and repair some of it. The base plate is cracked and will need to be replaced or braced with ally.
I also spoke to Paul Cooper from Technobots and it seems that my parts have been sent to the wrong address i will investigate later in the week.
- 20/04/03 - Just got back from the Easter Robot Rumble with CBF mk3, had a great weekend with some fantastic featherweight action (Report).
CBF got to the semi final of Sunday's competition, which I was very pleased about, I went out due to damaged caused by Black and Blue.
- 12/04/03 - Still waiting for parts from Technobots, Monday is the last day for them to arrive or it will be impossible. Dave M. came over again today to work on Mk3
as a back up which is likely now to be fighting at the Robot Rumble. Also confirmed that we are going with a robot of some description.
- 10/04/03 - Cut out and fitted back armour and started side bars. Still waiting on some parts of drive train.
- 09/04/03 - Cut out and fitted top and side armour.
- 08/04/03 - Cut out and fitted base armour.
- 06/04/03 - Worked on timetable and unless I get the chassis finished and the ordered parts by Thursday (today is Sunday) then it is looking likely that
the robot won't get finished. Also got another part of the chassis welded.
- 03/04/03 - Yet another trip to B+Q to get more metal, but still no work on the robot. I am hoping to get the rest of the chassis done tomorrow, as my deadline is
this Saturday, but this is looking unlikey now.
- 01/04/03 - Not much work done today, but tidied workshop. What little work on the robot I did included more on motor mountings and speedo mount.
- 31/03/03 - Cut down the motor and battery mounts that were slightly large and took some more photos. But I can't do much more until my sprockets and chain arrives.
- 30/03/03 - Update: Photos on Mk4 page of chassis and mountings.
- 29/03/03 - Most of the chassis is now complete, so major work can start on putting everything in. Still waiting for some parts should be here next week, I hope.
Dave M from Turbine also came over to work on the old CBF to get it ready for RRC, we got quite a lot done.
- 27/03/03 - After a short wait, got the welding done, so the lower chassis is complete. Took another trip to B+Q to get some
more metal. In the evening, I drilled and tapped the lower chassis, cut some more metal and finished all the internal mountings.
- 26/03/03 - Pestered my uncle again to get the welding done, so hopefully later today. Made first motor mounting and thats about it, will also
place final parts order tonight.
- 24/03/03 - Cut out more chassis parts, took relay board from mk3 to act as a back up speedo for mk4. Mk3 will have switches to operate
the motors for RRC. Spoke to my uncle who is unfortunately very busy at the moment so the welding may be put back a few days, not good news.
- 22/03/03 - I might be out of action for a few days after just walking the Chase Walk, which is 42.5 miles in 14:47 hours.

- 09/03/03 - Construction started on X-303, which will be entered into The UK Featherweight championship and The International Robot Rumble if finished in time. If not the the existing robot will go instead. So far just the outline of the chassis is underway, with much welding to be done yet.
- 05/03/03 - Update: Events page updated with future events planned for this year, i should be attending them all.

- 21/01/03 - Confirmed that CBF will be in the Debenham Robot Rumble at RAF Brentwaters near Ipswich.
- 07/01/03 - Finished for now, but with no control of drive motors this will have to wait until i can afford the controllers.
